Dave’s Eye

Audry: Did you hear about Dave's recent eye injury? He was taking supplies to a child protection training and as he hauled a heavy rubber tie down rope cut from a tire (thicker than a thumb) it broke and recoiled straight into his eye causing bleeding inside and outside the eye and damaging the purse string muscle that controls the pupil of the right eye. The damage , short of a miracle, is permanent thus his right eye is permanently dilated. This is a more serious issue in Africa where the sun shines bright most days. Harmful levels of UV rays now enter the eye and could quickly damage the retina. He now has to wear sunglasses all the time, even inside the house the light can bother him. He went to France to see two ophthalmologists who confirmed that nothing could be done about it. Time may improve it a bit but it will take a miracle. Please pray for healing.

Dave: This could ruin my career as a hero in the movies but my kids say I can always play the bad guy “cause you don't have to be handsome– only tough”. Our volunteer Jodi, blunt to a fault, says the ugly witch in the castle basement in “Robin Hood Prince of Thieves” had one huge pupil just like mine. Romantically, a dilated pupil shows that you love the person you are looking at. Now Audry looks right: “he loves me”- looks left “he loves me not” then asks in frustration “Dave, which eye are you looking at me with?” We have lost a little girl to stillbirth and many close friends in the war so I’m not planning on letting the loss of some function in one eye slow me down much.

School Teacher Needed please:

We are still struggling with providing quality schooling for our children since their evacuation from their excellent missionary school in Ivory Coast last November. Due to Josh and Matthew’s learning disabilities, BCS -an affordable missionary school in Senegal is hesitant to accept them – but if a special education teacher volunteers at the school they will take them.

Please pray that a skilled teacher /tutor can be found to volunteer at BCS or to teach our children here in Liberia. Please also make any contacts you can think of to fill this need. We can provide airfare, room and board plus a modest salary.

Thank you for your prayers and financial gifts Christ’s peace be with you

Much Love from
Dave, Audry and
all the Waines kiddies
